
Four Steps, the Research, training and rehabilitation centre for children with Special Needs organized their Annual Day with great zeal at The Banyan Tree School, Lodhi Road Complex.
While all children are battling mental challenges, some have physical disabilities and even severe and profound multiple disabilities as well. Overcoming all odds they put up a scintillating performance of Dance and Drama with such confidence, which clearly demonstrated the many hours of zealous practice put in by all the children.
The ceremony started with the welcome note for guests, followed by the ceremony of lighting of lamps by Jayanti Dalmia , chairperson , Four steps , M.K.Raina , Theatre personality of Tare Zameen Par fame, Kumi Chandra and chief guest Poonam Natrajan, Chairperson of National Trust, Ministry of Social & Justice & Empowerment.
The highlight of the event was the play “Dharti Ke Pukar”. It was a magnificent display of their skills, which were invoked through the drama therapy. The core theme of the drama was `Seasons` which embraced global environmental concerns, the message was depicted conceptually by Mother Earth wanting every one to live together in harmony and peace.
Jayanti Dalmia, talking about the institute says that it has around 25 students at the present and the limited number of seats is to ensure the ideal teacher student ratio which is 1:3.
When asked what drives her to continue working for these challenged students, Jayanti says," My daughter who shares her fate with these children is my real and perennial inspiration.
Gita Kishore and Kamal Kishore parents of Retiesh, a student at Four Steps firmly believe that their son has made the best of qualities inherent in him. "What gives us satisfaction is the fact that our child has been able to realise his full potential," reveal the Kishores.
