Gyan Manjari - 2006

On 18th February, 2006 Four Steps hosted Gyan Manjari- 2006 (Inter School Quiz Competition for persons with special needs). It was held in the amphitheatre of Hotel Ashoka.

To offer a truly enriching experience to the children, Four Steps invited other special and integrated schools and institutes of Delhi to participate in the Quiz. The Quiz witnessed participation from thirty two special and integrated schools of Delhi and NCR. The quiz competition comprised of two main rounds- Preliminary round & Final round, which further included various sub rounds. The schools were sent guidelines and the Question Bank (comprising 100 Question on General Knowledge & Current Affairs and 100 Question on Activities of Daily Living) a month prior to the Quiz Day. Details of every ensuing round were explained to each team in the language they were comfortable with. The Quiz Curriculum has in fact been adopted as a formal General Knowledge Curriculum in many Special Schools of Delhi.

The competition was won by the team from Shristi Rehabilitation Centre. Kulachi Manovikkas Kendra and Frontline Special School bagged the 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

Gyan Manjari is an important step towards mass awareness about the intellectual ability of persons with intellectual disability amongst our Indian society. Over the years, an increase in the level of individual participation in the Question Answer round has been noticed. The Quiz has helped in tapping the potential of the participants on this score. The ability to compete, the readiness to enjoy it, the obvious learning from it, is all towards a larger goal of rehabilitation.
